Ever thought about turning a simple train stop into an adventure you won’t forget?
Well, that’s exactly what you’re in for when you step off at Jokoji Station in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
A friend and I went on a small hike from Jokoji station, which is a time warp itself.
When you disembark at Jokoji Station, you’ll be stepping into more than just a train station.
It’s compact and quaint.
But it’s the gateway to an adventure that offers hiking, history, and a dash of mystery thrown in for good measure.
As you leave the station, you’ll soon notice the now-closed Jokoji Park Hotel.
A once bustling lodge that welcomed weary travelers and hikers.
Now, it stands silent and somewhat eerie, a melancholic relic of its once vibrant past.
Though you can’t check in anymore.
It is blocked off and there are security cameras everywhere.
The only way to get in would be to wade through the river; and, yeah, no thanks!
However, it’s worth a pause to imagine the tales that this hotel could tell if only its walls could talk.
Hiking Near The Station
Just a short walk from the station, you’ll find the trailhead that leads you to the heart of the area’s beautiful hiking trails.
First, you need to cross the Shonai River by going over the Shiromine Bridge.
With the closed hotel behind you and the open path ahead, you’re ready to embark on a journey through nature.
Follow along on our hike.
ASMR; No voiceover or annoying background music.
Sorry for the out-of-breath sounds, it was crazy humid.
Jokoji Walk
As you can see in the video above, the walk starts off at the station.
Then, we cross the bridge and soon enough are in the woods.
These trails, dotted with charming little statues and paths, guide you through thick, lush greenery.
Feel the crunch of leaves under your boots, and hear the melody of the forest.
And let the natural beauty rejuvenate your senses.
Ours was a short and manageable route.
Perfect for beginners or those seeking a peaceful stroll.
Regardless of the route you choose, breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere are guaranteed.
Depending on the season, you’ll encounter wildflowers blooming, autumn leaves turning, or snow gently blanketing the landscape.
Eco Cafe Ending
As our walk came to an end, we found ourselves by a stream.
We crossed over, climbed up a little rock face, and found this quaint restaurant.
The staff and owner were super nice and the curry and salad hit the spot.
We also enjoyed a coffee and homemade lemon scone.
Jokoji is a 20-minute train ride from Kanayama station in Nagoya.
Get the local bound for Mizunami as the express trains do not stop here.
There are no staff at the station, so best to use a prepaid card such as a Manaca
Grab your hiking boots, pack your bag, and let the adventure begin!
